The Euroza Foundation Pilot Programme

‘Empowering Communities to Uplift Their Youth’

1. Youth Sports Initiatives

First we establish youth football and netball teams in each community as a means of initial outreach and engagement with vulnerable youths. This involves the construction of suitable pitches, sending sports equipment and providing coaching training for the teams.

We currently have eight football and netball teams across our four pilot communities, all of which have been organised into a district youth sports league to add an element of competition as a goal for team-building, cohesion, and continued participation.

These teams serve as a key foundation in pulling together youth groups with regular attendance, and a platform for training and opportunities for further phases of the Pilot Project. Euroza is running its 2nd Annual Youth Sports Competition for Monze District in September 2022, which will see all 8 football and netball teams compete for a range of prizes in front of Zambian talent scouts and recruiters.

3. Social Enterprise and Vocational Training

Building upon the Community Impact Projects, the next phase of our project involved a consultation with our Youth groups about the types of vocational training and local social enterprise projects that interest them as a collective.

Once a plan has been deliberated upon, a business plan is composed presenting the scope and nature of the idea with projections about profitability and impact.

Once approved, our Zambia team works to organize and provide vocational training in the chosen enterprise - after which we provide the initial investment and infrastructure to facilitate the social enterprise project.

The aim of these community-owned social enterprise ventures is to create a sustainable source of income within the community that can be used for the funding of future community impact projects, youth sports, and deployed to assist the most vulnerable youths in the community.

To kickstart our mission, we launched a Pilot Program to develop our approach and provide a launchpad for future strategic planning.

Our Pilot Program is taking place in rural communities living in challenging poverty paradigms across Monze District in Zambia’s agrarian Southern Province - an area in the midst of recovery from severe multi-year droughts.

Despite difficulties throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Zambia team made huge inroads conducting a district-wide community assessment process that has led us to four communities excited to work on empowering their youth to escape conditions of rural poverty.

Currently there are 250 vulnerable youths participating in our Pilot Program.

2. Community Impact Projects

Once youth sports teams are successfully running, we engage stakeholders in the village communities - including Village Headpersons, Teachers, and the Mothers of project participants - for an open discourse on challenges facing the community.

The aim is to identify specific areas of need and limitation that are stifling the empowerment of vulnerable youths within the community. Through partnership focused discussions bespoke solutions are developed under the guidance of community stakeholders and our local leadership team to overcome these hurdles and remove barriers to success and opportunity. Community Impact Projects are then carried out as a joint endeavor between the community stakeholders, the youth teams, and our Zambia team in the spirit of partnership.

4. Civic Education and Female Empowerment

Throughout the Pilot Program Youth groups will be engaged with community-relevant and locally-taught civic education focusing on key challenge areas stemming from the poverty paradigms such as substance abuse, prostitution, and HIV prevention.

Alongside these civic education workshops, we will be continually engaging communities with education and resources related to women’s rights and female empowerment, this will be assisted by a designated girl’s fund for each participant community which will empower female stakeholders to form support systems for girls and promote thought-leadership within their communities.
